Could I have Christmas sewing ideas as I'm doing a stall at christmas
Rosina replied: 7 Oct 22 at 13:18
I am making foldaway shoppers, Doggy bags for holding poo bags, Debbies' pattern. I am also making Christmas gift bags with no interfacing as people won't have the money to buy them all posh like. Scissor keepers, tissue covers for handy packs, and a variety of tree ornaments.

Hi everyone! I?m making the reversible kimono jacket - any tips/ideas on whether I could make this long enough to be a dress (above the knee but not too short). Could I simply make the pattern pieces longer or would other adjustments be required? Will be a adding a belt too. Also fabric suggestions, I?d like it to be something that keeps its structure. Thanks!

Hi..Debbie shows you how to make up the pattern for your size. To make it longer you will need to follow the line that Debbie draws from the sleeve to the hem at the length you require. I think I would make a toile of my pattern (see Tips section) in a cheaper material ( eg an old sheet) to make sure it fits and feels ok. Alterations can then be made to the pattern if required. From the pictures that members have added to the project it looks like different fabrics have been used with one member quilting the jacket so this might be a good way to add structure. Don?t forget to add more fabric to the ingredient list if you are lengthening to make it dress length.

I'm making the 2019 Satchel and using a directional fabric, so I need to make the back/flap out of two pieces. It looks like I could just not join the two flap/back pattern pieces together and cut them separately, then join them afterwards? Or should it be a bit more offset than that so the join seam is nearer the back or front of the bag?

Hi everyone, I've just bought some of the lovely new jersey fabric from Debbie's shop for a top, however I have never sewn with jersey before. Will I need a binding for the neckline and how do I finish off the hemline?
Laura replied: 5 Oct 22 at 11:53
Debbie?s video about making the batwing top gives some useful tips around sewing with jersey that may help?the demonstration starts about half way through this video https://youtu.be/3XU8c0iCOik Hope this helps ..

Hi everyone. I have (stupid, annoying, gets in my way) arthritis in my hands! But I?m sewing anyway - it?s not going to win. As with everyone I expect, I have a million projects in mind for my grandkids for Christmas. One requires quite a lot of cutting out with pinking shears. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good, yet lightweight brand please? Thank you Judi ( I?m a pianist and piano teacher too, so keeping the pain in my hands to a minimum is pretty important! ) Happy sewing one and all

I?ve just spotted these on Debbie?s website if you had a Olfa rotary cutter you could use these: https://www.debbieshoresewing.com/shop/books-haberdashery/cutting-tools/olfa-deluxe-rotary-cutter-pinking-blade-45mm/ I have no recommendations on actually shears though sorry.

Ironing board cover for my tabletop board! Not strictly a HYSC project but I used Debbie's technique of attaching bias binding found on this site, which is much neater than my usual efforts and created the perfect channel for the cord to go through. I used a layer of thermal fleece plus two layers of 100% cotton wadding on the top to withstand the heat. I also gave the finished cover a light spray with heat protection spray meant for hair straightening! Hopefully that will help prolong the life of the gorgeous fabric.

That?s lovely. I have the same ironing board and the fabric. X

I'm making this weekend bag. And my question is. I've used a none fusible fleece do i need to quilt it or just sew it in. I worry it may full apart once sewn??
Laura replied: 29 Sep 22 at 10:54
Debbie does use a sew in firm fleece when making the overnight/duffel bag project on this site. You may find her video explaining this useful for your weekend bag project.
