what is a drop feed button and when and what do you use it for
Emma replied: 17 Apr 20 at 19:08
If you are sewing layers of batting and fabric you are better using a walking foot; this has ridges on the top as well, and makes it easier for the 3 layers to move through the machine at the same feed rate, using the feed dogs on the bottom; this stops you getting the dragging effect and jamming you were talking about. I drop the feed dogs when I am free motion quilting, so I control the movement of the fabric, not the machine. A slide mat is also a good investment (like Supreme Slider); it has a Teflon top, and enables the fabric to slide with zero friction; it has a self sticking underside that grips to your machine and is easy to remove. This makes free motion so much easier!

If you need a bag that will stand up on it's own, Bosal Foam is great! It is lightweight, designed to be sewn, and works great in bags.

Debbie replied: 18 Mar 20 at 06:43
Hi Beryl, is it a particular fabric you're looking for? I buy mainly on line, Cotton Patch have a good selection, I love Higgs and Higgs, and I have my own website too.

I've made today the March project, the rucksack/tote bag. Has anyone else had pattern issues?? I'm slightly annoyed as after I cut out the Kraft tex according to the pattern I found it needed to be place on the fold. Expensive waste...The lining peice pattern was just weird and the lining itself far too big. ?
Debbie replied: 18 Mar 20 at 06:41
Hi Hazel, the pattern does state to be placed on fold, but thanks for pointing this out I'll try to make it clearer in future...

Hi Debbie, on your recent sewing street slot you mentioned a fabric place near Birmingham. I'd love to visit as my daughter lives near Birmingham. Can you give details or is it for commercial only? Many thanks x

Hi, I have recently bought Debbie's Build a Bag Backpack book, and am loving how easy the patterns are to follow.? Only problem I am having is finding the best way to attach webbing as straps; I have had some shear already when wieght has been put in the bag. Any hints and tips on making the strap seam secure and strong? Thanks!
Emma replied: 5 Mar 20 at 18:32
Many thanks Chloe! I have now used all your ideas above, and the straps are far more secure. I also found a longer stitch length was good, to stop the holes being too near together and "perforating". Hopefully my straps will now last! Emma.

Hi Debbie you don't say what size circle and there is no template. I made it 3" and 3 1/2" material. Seems to be fine. Have a good Sunday
Madame Cholet replied: 7 Mar 20 at 19:18
Thanks. I?m just starting it and wondered what size it should be as the template is slightly too big for the square I cut out and the template says 1.5 inches or 8.89 cm which doesn?t compute!

Hi, how big do the fat quarters need to be? I'm not in the UK and will probably buy online, but the size of the pieces seems to vary quite a bit. Eg. 30 x75 cms or 46x52 cms. (i am assuming 25 x 25 cms is too small!) Thank you. Maybe a guide to the optimal size of fat quarter pieces could accompany the notes on the project?

I would love to make a Camden Bag has anyone made one? What was the degree of difficulty used to make them?

JO-ANN replied: 28 Feb 20 at 10:27
The Camden Bag is made using strips of Wadding made be Bosal like the ones used to make a rug. Each strip is sewn together in an oval shape a base and then sides. The support of the handles is made with, I think, plastic tubing, these also make the handles. Its a bit like a big version of the bowls that I have seen.

Hi Sharon, we've looked into this and there doesn't appear to be an issue on our end. We'll keep an eye on it for you though!
