Quick Make: Star Coaster | Beginner Video Tutorial

Make a simple star design that's so much easier than it looks!

About the project

A speedy make and a superb stashbuster too. You can whip up our versatile star design in no time – use them as coasters, hanging decorations, gift tags or make multiple and thread together to make a garland or bunting. We use a hexagon template in this project, but don't worry if you don't have one, we'll show you how to make your own in the video tutorial – it's super easy!

What skill level is this sewing pattern?

This is a beginner-friendly 'quick make' and shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes to stitch!

Debbie's Top Tips

  1. If you're making these into coasters, add some heat-resistant wadding to the centre to keep it safe.
  2. Try making a tree decoration by tying a small loop of ribbon to one of the corners.
  3. You can add a star design onto the other side to make it a double-sided decoration.
  4. What do I make next?

There are now plenty of other Christmas projects to choose from. If you're looking for more speedy makes try our Christmas Present Decoratons – they'll pair perfectly with your new decor. These Christmas Trees are perfect for adding an extra touch that will wow your guests. And for a longer stitch, we've even got a Gingerbread House Doorstop to try that you can bring out year after year! These all make excellent gifts too.
