About the project
This cherry decoration is such a sweet project and can be made in a matter of minutes! Simply grab a few of your fabric scraps and put them to good use with this fun leftovers project. They make for great gifts, keychains or decorations for around your home. And why stop there? Keep going and make your own full fruit bowl – it would make a great toy and learning tool for children.
I've included the measurements of my cut fabric below, but you can adapt the pattern to suit you! (see video).
Note: use a ¼in (5mm) seam allowance throughout, unless otherwise stated in the video.
What skill level is this sewing pattern?
This is a beginner-friendly “quick make,” and shouldn't take you more than 20 minutes to stitch!
Debbie's Top Tips
- Have a pin cushion to hand to help you make the cord for the cherries.
- Don't have a circle template? No problem! Just draw around a cup or roll of tape.
- When you gather the circles for the cherries, stuff the raw ends of the fabric into your circle as you stitch it up.

You will need:
Equipment
- Scissors
- Circle template 3in (7.5cm)
- Paper
- Pen
- Ruler
- Sewing machine or needle and thread
- Tweezers (optional)
Materials
- Two circle pieces of fabric for the cherries, measuring 3in (7.5cm)
- Two pieces of green fabric, measuring 6 x 3in (15.25 x 7.5cm)
- Green embroidery thread, measuring 24in (61cm)
- Toy filler
