This striking block, and like many of the geometrical blocks in this quilt, could be repeated to make a stunning quilt in its own right
The ‘crow’s feet’ in this block are depicted by the large arrows surrounding the centre square. However, the block is actually created in three rows. It always surprises me that some blocks that initially look quite complicated, come together fairly quickly when broken down!
By the end of this project, you’ll have learnt:
- A four-in-one-go method of making Half Square Triangles.
- A four-in-one-go method of making Flying Geese.
- How to make a striking block for your quilt.
Unfinished block size: 12½in (31.75cm) square.
Note: Stitch with an accurate ¼in (5mm) seam allowance.

You will need:
Equipment
- Sewing machine
- Rotary cutter
- Quilting ruler
- Quilting mat
- Scissors
Materials
- Fabrics (see my Introduction to the 2026 Block of the Month). From these, you will need to cut:
- One 4½in (11.5cm) square in Fab B, sub cut on both diagonals into four for the Flying Geese
- Four 3in (7.5cm) squares in B/G, each cut into two diagonally for the Flying Geese
- Two 3¾in (9.5cm) squares in B/G for the half square triangle units
- Two 3¾in (9.5cm) squares in Fab B for the half square triangle units
- Eight 2in (5cm) squares in B/G
- Four 3½in (9cm) squares in Fab D
- Four 2in (5cm) squares in Fab F
- One 3½in (9cm) square in Fab A
- Four 3½in (9cm) squares in Fab B
