Quilt-Along: Rooster Block of the Month 11 | 2026

This eye-catching appliqué block is an opportunity to test out your appliqué skills and see how far you’ve come since you started this colourful quilt.

The rooster block is the second fully machine-appliquéd block in the quilt, standing proud and displaying his many colourful tail feathers. His partner block is the Highland Cow (block 3), which is the same size. Once again, in addition to being a feature on this quilt, this block would make a lovely stand-alone wall hanging (with the addition of one or two borders), could be displayed in a picture frame or you could make a lovely cushion or bag with him.

By making this block, you'll have:

  1. Created a picture appliqué block using fabric adhesive sheets.
  2. Fine-tuned your machine-appliqué skills working with curves.
  3. Put fabric scraps to good use.

Finished untrimmed block size: 12½in (31.75cm) square.
Note: There are no seam allowances for this block. Templates have been reversed to accommodate working with fabric adhesive sheets.
