This mini version of Wilbur the Chumley pig makes a cute purse or cosmetic bag, zipped across the top and with a padded face that makes him super cuddly!
This is such a delightful project that once you’ve made this little guy, you’ll need to be prepared to make more as everyone will want one. You just need a small amount of fleece, some left-over felt and fabric, a zip and some toy stuffing and you are good to go.
Front padding
The front of the purse has been stuffed – not just the legs and nose, but the body too, using toy stuffing. The body stuffing is held in place by an inner layer; because the inner fabric for the front won’t be seen, any scrap fabric will do the trick.
Make it your own!
- Your pig doesn’t have to be pink – make it in your favourite colour(s) or use what you already have.
- Use a different fleece colour for one of the ears.
- Add a little patch pocket to the inside.
By the end of this project, you’ll have:
- Made the cutest gift to bring a smile to everyone who sees it.
- Mastered the art of working on a small-scale project.
- Found out how easy it is to insert a zip gusset.
Note: use a ¼in (5mm) seam allowance.
Finished size:7 x 7 x 3in (18 x 18 x 7.5cm)

You will need:
Equipment
- Sewing machine with a standard foot
- Zipper foot – or if your machine has the facility, you can move your needle to the left and use your standard foot
- Fabric glue: I use Gutermann HT2
- Embroidery needle
- Fabric clips and pins – or just use pins if you prefer
- Optional: erasable fabric marker
- Optional: tweezers to help you push out the points of the ears
Materials
- 16 x 12in (40.5 x 30.5cm) of polar fleece – I used pink
- 10 x 6in (25.5 x 15cm) of inner-ear fabric (cotton)
- 16 x 10in (40.5 x 25.5cm) of lining fabric
- 8 x 5in (20.5 x 13cm) of inner fabric – this won’t show so it can be any fabric
- 2 x 2in (5 x 5cm) of black felt for the nostrils and eyes
- White embroidery floss
- Black sewing thread and thread to match your fleece
- 10in (25cm) zip
- 12 x 8in (30.5 x 20.5cm) of medium-weight interfacing
- Small amount of toy filler
