Hi I am a complete newbie to sewing and this membership and sorry if it is a silly question but how do you transfer?draw Maddie's face from the template to the material? Many thanks
Laura replied: 17 Apr 23 at 08:46
I did respond with this reply to someone who had this problem a while ago it may be useful to you?.. If you trace the face onto tracing/baking paper with a pencil then turn paper over ?scribble over the face features on the reverse of the paper (place on a scrap of paper when you do this as the original face could transfer onto the work surface). Then turn over with original facing you..place on the fabric for Maddie?s face and draw carefully over the features. The carbon in the scribble will transfer onto the fabric and give you lines/shapes for you to embroider. I remember doing this technique at school (a longtime ago) for transferring brass rubbings etc. Hope it works for you.

I have been attempting to make April box but my machine doesn?t seem to like the satin stitch and cotton keeps bubbling up underneath. Any ideas why please? Thanks in advance.

It looks like it might be a top threading issue or possibly the wrong needle for the material and interface you are using. There are a few videos on you tube about problems with satin stitch that might help. Hope it has or does work out ok.

This gnome popped up on my crochet Facebook page. It could be an inspiration for adapting one of Debbie?s gnomes.

Hi Everyone & Happy Easter! I?m sorry if this is a silly question but I?m new to the Half Yard Sewing Club and I?m stuck. On one of Debbie?s YouTube videos she said to make sure to download the patterns that you like and want to make because the older ones get deleted. But as the videos take up a lot of storage space on our devices we don?t need to download those too, instead they have an access code that we just need to take note of and with that code we will be able to access the video forever. Problem is I can?t find the access code anywhere! I can?t find anyway at all of even saving the video. Please could someone help me, I?m obviously missing something but I just can?t see it? Thanks, Wendy

I usually save the projects to Acrobat or print as the QR code can be scanned anytime from the printout. Hope that helps????

Hi can anyone remember which live or video Debbie demonstrates sewing in a bag base? Thank you.
Laura replied: 6 Apr 23 at 21:40
Debbie adds a plastic bag base to the Weekend Bag on this site if that helps. She also adds a base without the plastic base on the Overnight bag again on this site.

Hello, my first project as a member are the Fabric Boxes this month. I have an overlocker so I can use this to secure the sides but I?m not sure if I need the cutting arm in this project. Can you help please?
Debbie replied: 3 Apr 23 at 13:18
I kept the blade up but just ran it alongside the edge of the fabric without cutting, you don't really need it...

Hi! I'm a newbie and would like to start this year's QAYG. I've never quilted before so I might be asking loads of questions, hopefully you can help. First of all, I have bought Debbie's fabric bundle for the quilt but wondered, do I have to wash them before I start using them? TIA
Laura replied: 2 Apr 23 at 22:27
Hi Bips..welcome to the group. I?m using Debbie?s fabric kit and have not pre washed the fabrics..I like using the original structure and finish of the material when cutting and piecing etc. I think this will be fine as I am only likely to dry clean the finished product. I am not sure if you have had a chance to read the Introduction to the 2023 Quilt ..it is certainly worth reading before you make a start. I have copied it here for you so you can take a look. https://www.halfyardsewingclub.com/projects/welcome-to-my-block-of-the-month-quilt-2023 Have fun ?we are all learning as we go and there is lots of help on this forum if you get stuck.
