Dear all I would like to sew an A line skirt but not too sure how to get the A . Can anyone advise how many inches to add? I already have the block pattern. many thanks to all!
Debbie replied: 3 Aug 20 at 03:04
Hi Heng, I think this depends on how wide you'd like the 'A' to be, try measuring 3" from each side of the bottom of the skirt and tapering to the waist, make up a toile to make sure you're happy first!

Can anyone help with a problem I have with the template for the Sew Simple Tote from Debbie's book Tote Bags. I am trying to make the Sew Simple Tote and the template doesn't seem right.? The template measures 10" x 8" and she asks you to draw around the 'whole' template 1, and I know you have this on a fold. But the finished size of the bag is 15.1/2" x 9.1/2".? I hope someone can help.? Thank you.? Jan.

I want to make the March 2020 convertible backpack bag but have never tried one with so many pieces. I want to make one from some canvas fabric I have spare, as a trial. I plan on adding a quarter inch extra to the top & bottom of Backpack Base pattern piece. Is this the only alteration I need to make to the pattern? In the video Debbie mentions adding extra to the main fabric too but I don't know why? If it is required, I don't know what other parts of pattern to alter. Can anyone help?? Many thanks Cheryl

hi Wendy. I have mine in a cupboard but if you look on Pinterest there are some good ideas for storing things. Ikea have some interesting sewing room ideas and layouts... it all depends how much space and fabric you have!! X

I am new to bag making although I do a lot of dressmaking. I have just bought some lovel bee canvas fabric and I am just wondering as its a thicker fabric if I need to put interfacing to strengthen it. I am going to make Debbies Shopper Tote Bag which is on youtube as my first one. Also, can you use an invisible zip for a pocket etc. Thanks
Cassie replied: 23 Jun 20 at 16:51
Interfacing is your preference. Do you want an easily folded bag, use light or no interfacing. If your outside material is see through, use some kind of interfacing. Want the bag to "stand", use a heavier interfacing or foam. The joy of making something yourself is being able to put in whatever you want. If you know how to install an invisible zip, do it! Happy sewing!

Any tips on machine smocking a child?s dress
1
DAINE replied: 17 Jun 20 at 15:44
Hi well i dont no if this will help you a i have only one machine smocking two or three time, but what i did was fold all the pleats and give them a good steam, then a pin them and also tack them,i did fond that tacking was better than the time i pined, i then use a nice colour thread that would show up on the fabric i was useing ,and machine sewed lines across the pleasts,i did a tester to see how far would be best for the decorative stitchi was going to use on my machine, after that i use a water eraser pen,so my lines was straight, once i did that i use a diffent colour thread to machine the the pattern i had chosen from my machineto sew inbetween the lines,i have also did the line useing cotton elastic or shirring elastic.well i hope this is of some help.happy sewing saty safe and well.
